Dear Brothers and Sisters,
I write this memo today informing you of the successful ratification of the proposed union contract. I would like to personally thank Dickey Harper and Eric Cox who were both on the negotiations committee for Local 647. Lake Catherine and Independence Power Plants were well-represented by these two. Also, I would like to thank all of the individuals on-site that helped me present the proposed contract changes as well as conduct the vote.
When I presented the contract to you all, I told you we still had an outstanding issue regarding the Annuity. As I draft this memo, that issue has yet to be resolved. The company’s total rewards department (Retirement, Insurance, Team-sharing) is preparing a draft to present to the Board of Directors who will then decide whether or not to go with our plan over their own. I currently do not have a timeframe for that decision; but, as soon as I get confirmation from the company either way, I will promptly inform the membership.
All other aspects of the contract will take effect on October 1st, including all pay raises associated with the contract. We are working with the company to get contract books finalized and ready for print. These books will be distributed to the stewards as soon as printing is completed, and the stewards will consequently distribute them to the members.
Lastly, I would also like to take the time to announce Jeff Strothers as your new Plant Steward and Executive Board Member. I will work very closely with Jeff to ensure the contract is being followed by all parties involved, and any issues are dealt with in a timely manner. Feel free to reach out to Jeff, your shift steward, or myself with any questions or concerns.
